The tasks of the HCSO are: planning data recordings, recording, processing, storing, analyzing and publishing data, protecting individual data. The Office provides data to parliamentary and administrative bodies, non-governmental organizations, interest groups, local governments, public bodies, academic and business organizations, the general public and the media, as well as international organizations and foreign users.

Official data on the country's social and economic situation and population trends are published by the HCSO.
